What is Plantar Fasciitis?

Plantar fasciitis is one of the main causes of heel pain. It commonly causes a stabbing pain located at the bottom of your foot when you walk after a long period of sitting down. However, the pain usually decreases as you begin to move around. Factors that would tend to put an individual at risk for this are increasing the  amount of weight-bearing activity, the intensity of your workouts and hard walking/running surfaces and worn out shoes.

How to treat plantar fasciitis

The most effective way to treat plantar fasciitis is stretching and strengthening. Specific stretching techniques are used to correct tightness of the foot muscles. One study discovered that 83% of patients who engaged in stretching programs were successfully treated as opposed to exercise, night splints, orthotics or steroid injection.

Before/after a treatment, it is recommended to rest your feet after physical activities, analyze your shoes to see if they are in any way uncomfortable as you may need to purchase more supportive shoes to decrease pain when walking.
